The Idaho Smoke ‘n’ Fire 400

September 12, 2017

We have a team of outstanding employees here at Hawkins Companies! One such member is our Pre-development Manager, Brandon.  He has challenged himself to participate in the 2017 Smoke ‘n’ Fire 400; a 451 mile bike-packing bicycle race that has him traveling all around the mountains of Central Idaho. The race starts at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning September 13th.  This isn’t just a personal challenge; his focus is centered on others.

Check out Brandon’s story in his own words below:

“I am using this event to help raise money for The Hope House. This is a place to call “home” for challenged children who have been through failed adoption processes. Some of these children have medical, behavior or mental challenges, and The Hope House steps in to provide shelter, clothing, food and education.

I am also riding on behalf of “Look! Save a Life!” This is an organization that promotes safety for all public right-of-way users. Whether you are a pedestrian; cyclist or motorist, we all owe it to each other to take that half of a second, and “LOOK” before we: Step off the side walk; Change lanes; Enter the roadway; or Make a turn. Simply put, before we make a move, let’s all just shoot a look in the direction that we are headed to make sure that whatever it is that we are about to do does not put ourselves, or anybody else in harm’s way. We owe it to each other.

If you would like to support me in this event, reach out to either The Hope House or to Look! Save a Life; and make a contribution. I believe they are both very worthy causes.

Keep an eye on that Trackleaders page, and make sure that I am still moving! Word on the streets is that we might have rain, possibly snow, night-time temperatures in the low 30’s, and highs during the day in the middle 70!

Wish me luck!

Also, a special “shout out” to UpCycle studio here in downtown Boise. When they heard about my desire to do this event, and help other along the way, they opened their doors to help me along the way. I have spent countless hours in their cycle studio, and I know that I would not be in the physical condition that I am without their support. THANK YOU UpCycle!
