There are a lot of ways to measure a community. One of the better ones might be how many people will get up early on a Thursday to eat pancakes for a good cause.
We’ll find out on Thursday, August 13, when the United Way of Treasure Valley hosts its 14th Annual Flapjack Feed — and Hawkins is proud to be there as a Syrup Supporter Sponsor.
What the morning is about
The Flapjack Feed kicks off United Way’s annual Community Campaign, the fundraising effort that feeds their Community Fund for the year ahead. That fund goes to work on youth opportunity, health, and financial security for families here in the Treasure Valley and across Idaho — the kind of steady, unglamorous work that changes the shape of someone’s year without ever making the news.
This year’s theme is “Flip It Forward.” It’s a good one, and not just because it fits the pancakes. The idea is simple: kindness and generosity don’t stop where they land. A meal, a mentor, a bit of breathing room on a tight month — those things move. Someone hands them to you, and eventually you hand them to someone else.
That’s a philosophy we recognize. Our own approach at HAWKINS has always come down to Return On Integrity — the belief that how you do business matters as much as what you build, and that the health of a place isn’t separate from the work you do in it. We develop and manage property across the Treasure Valley. The people United Way serves are our neighbors, our tenants, our tenants’ customers, and our own team’s families. Investing in this community isn’t a side project. It’s the same job.
Why our Charitable Contribution Committee chose this one
Sponsorship decisions at HAWKINS run through our Charitable Contribution Committee, a group of employees who look at where our giving can actually do something. The Flapjack Feed stood out for a reason that’s easy to overlook it’s genuinely open. A donation is suggested rather than required, and the whole thing happens outdoors at JUMP in the middle of downtown Boise. Nobody needs a ticket or a table sponsorship to pull up a plate. That accessibility is the point, and it’s rarer than it should be.
We’ll also have Hawkins team members there, forks in hand, alongside neighbors and businesses from across the valley.

It’s a community breakfast, open to all — no ticket required. A suggested $10 donation can be made on-site and supports United Way’s work throughout the year.
